Dog Returns to Rescue After 4 Months Due to Bed-Sharing Preference, Finds New Loving Home

Twinkle, a stray dog discovered wandering the streets of Miami in June, was taken in by True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission. She arrived emaciated with decaying teeth, but quickly received the care, love, and attention she deserved.

“After undergoing surgery, Twinkle spent a couple of weeks recovering at the veterinary clinic and began to regain weight,” shared Lisa Letson, president, and founder of True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission. “She transformed into an absolute darling. In early September, she was adopted by a seemingly wonderful family.”

However, around Christmastime, the rescue received an email from Twinkle’s new family expressing their desire to return her after four months of ownership.

It turned out that Twinkle would cry throughout the night because she wanted to sleep in the bed with her new parents. As the family had other senior Chihuahuas and did not allow any dogs in bed with them, they concluded that Twinkle was not a suitable fit and returned her to the rescue.

“Twinkle was devastated and bewildered,” Madison Mulvihill, the social media coordinator at True and Faithful Pet Rescue, shared. “I remember entering the main dog room to find her sitting in a corner on a dog bed, withdrawn and trembling with fear. Her face reflected profound confusion and heartache. The owners handed her back to us over the fence during the return. She kept looking back at that fence, and it’s so difficult because we can’t explain to her why someone would do this.”

All Twinkle desired was to cuddle with her family throughout the night, and it shattered her heart that she couldn’t have that. Everyone at the rescue felt utterly devastated for her. They had all adored her from the very beginning and couldn’t comprehend how someone could return such an affectionate and gentle soul.

“Not only is Twinkle incredibly adorable, but she also possesses an enormous personality despite weighing just 3 and a half pounds,” Mulvihill described. “She craves attention and fearlessly approaches you when she seeks affection. She radiates joy and displays the cutest little hops as she trots through the ranch’s grass. She adores snuggling, is leash trained, and gets along well with other dogs. When she wants to be scratched, she playfully paws at your hand.”

Upon her return to the rescue, Twinkle’s story was shared on TikTok by her compassionate friends, hoping to resonate with potential adopters—and the internet instantly fell in love with her. The rescue’s email inbox was inundated with adoption inquiries, and Twinkle now prepares to embark on a new chapter in her forever home.

“Her new family has six other dogs and a spacious king-sized bed that offers ample space for her to sleep alongside her new family at night,” Mulvihill revealed. “This senior dog will spend the rest of her life experiencing genuine love and affection.”

Twinkle simply longs to love and be loved unconditionally, and she has finally found a family that will embrace her for who she is.
