Some of our furry friends are so careless that, unfortunately, they come to suffer conditions so serious that they compromise their lives, writes fancy4work
This is the case of Augustus , an adorable border collie with a case of mange so severe that he was on the verge of death, but his strength and his will to live allowed him to enjoy every sunrise again.
The recovery of this puppy is a simply miraculous case.
Debbie Rappuhn , president and co-founder of the Heart of Alabama Save Rescue Adopt (HASRA) animal shelter , is used to seeing pooches in dire straits witnessing animal cruelty and neglect.
But Augustus’s situation has been one of the most difficult cases he has had to live through, even with his experience and nerves of steel, his strength was broken when he saw it.
This border collie was rescued wandering the streets of Northwest Alabama, in the United States, malnourished, dehydrated. His condition was very deplorable.
His fur had turned into a giant, painful scab caused by a severe case of mange. His condition had advanced so far that it was virtually impossible to tell Augustus’s race. The poor puppy looked like “something” with pus, skin and bones.
Fortunately , an angel on earth saw him in the crowd and decided to take him to the HASRA animal shelter.
Such was the impression this puppy made when he arrived at the rescue center that the staff will never forget his case.
The shelter’s vet suffered a lot when he saw his new patient, but without thinking he prepared to save his life.
Augustus’s state of health was so critical that there was no time to complain, time was against him and what had to be done had to be done quickly.
In addition to scabies, Augusto was emaciated with thousands of mites in his ears . Slowly, the vet carefully peeled back the thin layers of bark from what was once his fur , dewormed him, and thus began his slow, difficult, and painful healing process.
Over time , not only did her hair grow back, but she also left behind that stage of suffering to give way to a new life full of love and care.
Little by little, his breed began to appear and where before you could see a sad dog about to die, now you could see a happy and healthy border collie, almost fully recovered and ready to be put up for adoption.
Finally, a couple took him home, and Mindy, a dog that was already a family pet, became Augustus’ best friend.
After being on the brink of death from severe malnutrition and one of the most severe cases of mange, Augustus is the happiest dog in the world.
We celebrate his shocking transformation by sharing the story of Augustus as an example of strength and love.
